Minutes from Annual Meeting May 1st, 2021

The meeting was opened in due form at 9:00 a.m. by Governor Matthew Risberg in the Scottish Rite Blue Lodge Room in Des Moines.

Five new knights were initiated in full form: Saveno Seals, Edwin J. Damman, Timothy Plato, Samora D. Clay Sr., and Jason P. Anderson.

The business meeting began at 10:37 with 36 Knights Present.

The meeting was immediately called to refreshment for an educational program which had been prepared by Shane Harshbargar about DeMolay. Shane was assisted by his son, Alexander Harshbarger, who expertly gave the oration for the DeMolay initiation. The meeting was then called back to labor.

A motion was made by Secretary McCampbell to approve the August 14th, 2020 minutes as printed. It passed.

Because of the horrible Covid year, a motion was made by Grand Governor Wade Sheeler to remit dues for 10 knights. It passed.

Treasurer William Paisley reported $7,281 in our bank account, and submitted bills for blank checks and the day's refreshments. The motion to approve was passed

Chancellor Monte Harris moved that $150.00 be donated to the Des Moines Valley Scottish Rite for the use of the building. It passed.

Deputy Governor Truex moved to donate $100 each to RARA, CMMRF, KT Eye Foundation, and the York Rite Sovereign College Charity Fund. It passed.

Governor Matthew Risberg had created a pin in honor of Gene Hatfield with proceeds to go to RARA, and had them available for sale.

Treasurer William Paisley moved to give $50 each to DeMolay and Rainbow. It passed.

A motion by Grand Governor Sheeler to donate $100 to Altoona DeMolay. It Passed.

Grand Governor Sheeler approached several topics.

  • He presented a Gold Award to Andy Oxley.
  • He introduced the past governors who were present Rusty Hill, Burdette Bryngelson, Kevin Smith, and David Dryer.
  • He gave a brief explanation to the newly initiated knights about the two Iowa colleges, the sovereign college, and the reason for the creation of the college.
  • He spoke of the honor of being the only state to have two Regents, David Dryer and Bryce Hildreth, and he explained how the Regents were the national governing body. He also noted that Regent Hildreth was the Grand Chancellor General, and that he was in line to be Governor General.
  • He reported that Iowa #37 was one of about 20 of 200 colleges who had received honor college status for several years. He also noted that Iowa #37 and had been the Spencer Award winner three times in a row, which was unprecedented.
  • He then introduced Don Mosier and Paul Anderson who will be receiving the Purple Cross Award in August via Zoom in August, and will then attain the rank of associate regent.

The nominating committee's list of proposed officers was read by Secretary Rick McCampbell. All were elected.

The meeting was closed in due form before the
installation of the 2021-2022 officers listed below.
