Minutes From August 14, 2020

Opened at 2:34 p.m. by Deputy Governor Brian Truex in the Scottish Rite Classroom in Des Moines with 23 Knights present.

It should be noted that the May meeting had been cancelled because of Covid-19.

The meeting was turned over to Grand Governor Wade Sheeler. He spoke that the next meeting would be December 5th. (Which was cancelled because of a Covid-19 spike) He thanked Past Grand Governor Andersen for his service and asked him for comments.

Past Grand Governor Greg Andersen thanked the past officers and spoke briefly about the Sovereign College meeting where Wade was installed as Grand Governor.

Grand Governor Sheeler spoke of the installation of General Grand Governor W. Berry Rigdon, who had been installed at the electronic meeting. He then announced that our own knight, Bryce Hildreth, was installed as General Grand Chancellor, which is a position that is in line to become General Grand Governor in four years. Grand Governor Sheeler introduced our other Regent, David Dryer, and spoke about how Iowa is unprecedented, being the only state with two full Regents.

General Grand Chancellor Bryce Hildreth then spoke on a few topics.

  • The Sovereign College meeting will be in Kansas City next year in late July. (In-person was also cancelled)
  • Our Purple Cross candidates, who would have been honored had we had the actual meeting, were Kevin Christians and Paul Anderson. They will be initiated next year.
  • Two new OPC candidates will also be honored next year.
  • At this time we will be able to initiate new Knights into our local college at our December meeting.
  • Two new Regents were appoined: Stanton Brown of Missouri and Ballard Smith of Louisiana
  • Bryce spoke about the officer from South Carolina who was forbidden by the Grand Master of South Carolina from participating in the zoom meeting.

Past Governor Smithson spoke about the potential trademark violation for using our logo, which was eseentially meant to prohibit vendors from profiting from sales of items displaying our registered logos. Secretary McCampbell related that he had created a logo for #37 which he had been using (shown below.)

Jason Delzel announced that an initiation of new Chapter companions would be held Saturday in Burlington.

The meeting was adjourned by Deputy Governor Truex at 2:50 p.m.
