Minutes From December 1, 2018

Opened at 9:37 a.m. by Gov. Tom Megel in the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Des Moines with 34 companion-knights present.

The initiation started at 9:37 and finished at 11:28
Two new companion-knights were welcomed: Scott Nemmers and William Black

There was a motion to suspend the reading of the minutes by John Klaus since they were available on IAYRC.ORG

Financial report was given by treasurer, Randal Crouch

Motion by Gene Hatfield to give $100 to the Scottish Rite for use of the building. It passed.

Motion by Wade Sheeler to give $50 each to RARA, CMMRF, and the KT Eye Foundation. It passed.

Gov. Megel spoke about the spreadsheet he was keeping to track events for the Spencer Award.

Gov. Megel urged us to come up with events for veterans. Deputy Grand Governor Wade Sheeler spoke about Grand Commander Forest Pecks plans to lay wreaths at graves in the Veteran's Cemetery in Van Wert. (See below)

Gov. Megel spoke on his model to increase membership and the Mysterious 9. He urged all in attendance to take the model with the Mysterious 9 to local lodges and York Rite bodies.

Grand Governor Greg Andersen then addressed the two new members and spoke about the primary reason for existence of the York Rite College, which is help with ritual and philanthropy.

GG Andersen spoke briefly on the problems of Saturday scheduling of all the Masonic events we were involved with.

GG Andersen thanked Gov. Megel for having an event for the ladies.

GG Andersen congratulated us for being the largest York Rite College.

GG Andersen told the new members about the unprecedented fact that we had two Regents from Iowa, David Dryer and Bryce Hildreth, and that David Dryer is the current General Grand Preceptor General of the York Right Sovereign College of North America.

GG Andersen also introduced Wade Sheeler as the Grand High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons and Charlie Smithson as the Grand Master of the Royal and Select Masters.

The college was closed at 12:04.

On Saturday Dec 15th, the Iowa Veterans Cemetary is placing wreaths on the graves of veterans buried in the cemetary. The Grand Commandery of Iowa was one of the groups that raised money to pay for the wreaths.They are asking people who want to lay wreaths on graves of relatives or friends to show up at the cemetary between 10:00 and 10:30 am.
